Happy New Year one and all!
I hope 2019 is going well for you so far! Podcasts have really taken off in popularity the past 2 years and although I’ve been an avid podcast lover since about 2010, I don’t think I ever shared my favorites on my previous blog and definitely not on this blog before. I usually listen to at least 1 podcast a day but more often than not it’s more like 3- 6 a day because I thoroughly enjoy them and it’s something I can do regardless of how my health is doing that particular day. I’m actually subscribed to SEVENTY-SEVEN different podcasts (OH MY WORD! -lol ). I had absolutely no idea I was subscribed to that many until I counted them just now but it does go to show you how much I like them. 😉 I truly learn a great deal from podcasts and sometimes feel as if I’m putting myself through my own graduate school of some sort. lol – I wish! 🙂 So out of all 77 podcasts that I’m subscribed to here’s my top 10 favorites that outshone all the others for me personally in 2018.
Oh and FYI, these podcasts are in no particular order. 😉 Also, I had a really hard time just choosing 10 out of the 77, but I truly love and listen to each of these. I hope you find a new podcast or even several new podcasts from this list that you can enjoy as well. 🙂
(I have each of the podcasts linked to their respective web pages but I normally listen to each of them via the podcast app on my iphone – but in case any of you are not a fan of the podcast app and prefer web pages find them linked below, or look them up in the itunes/podcast app)
Okay, when I first found this podcast it had already been going on for several months but I LOVED it so much that I actually went back to the very beginning, made myself a checklist of all the ones I had missed and binge listened to EVERY SINGLE ONE and checked it off on my list as I went along….it’s THAT good! Serene and Pearl are so full of contagious joy and their co-host, Danny is hysterical. You’ll find yourself laughing during each episode but will also learn about THM diet tips, how mindset affects our health and a plethora of other things. Because of my health issues I’ve had to be on many different very strict diets over the past 13+ years and found Serene and Pearl to be a balanced, non-judgemental breath of fresh air! They feel like friends and their podcast has turned into something I now look forward to every Wednesday.
You guys, if there’s one podcast you listen to maybe this should be it. I don’t listen to all the sermons but I try to listen to all the sermons by Carter Conlon (they have several Pastors). Wow. Talk about soul-invigorating, hell-shaking, life-changing sermons! Because my health hasn’t been in a place for me to attend church regularly for many years now, I’m so grateful for the huge spiritual growth and influence Carter Conlon has had on me through these podcasts of his sermons. One of my dreams is to go to New York soon and get to attend Times Square Church on a Sunday when he is preaching. God has definitely used this podcast to bless me.
If you need to slow down and have space to breathe, process and be refreshed, this is the podcast for you. It’s so calming and always lifts my spirits. I love Emily P. Freeman so much! She’s like the friend you wished lived next door to you.
So to say that I’m OBSESSED with this podcast would be an understatement. I’ve been listening since it’s first week on air and am always intrigued and amused by Eric’s guests, whit and wisdom. It truly is “the show about everything” and I now have a “to-read” book list OVER 100 titles long (no joke-I counted) from authors he has interviewed. Not to mention how amazing his own books are! Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery is one of the best books I’ve ever read! Along with Bonhoeffer, If You Can Keep It, Seven Men, and Seven Women. His new release, Donald Drains the Swamp is quite amusing and I’m very much looking forward to perusing Martin Luther. 🙂 Visit with the man behind these grand books every day Monday-Friday for 2 hours via his radio show/podcast. You won’t regret it and you’ll thank me later. 😉
If you’re in need of something not too intense and just feel like laughing, grab a good cup of coffee or hot tea and curl up with blankets and listen to Annie! She’s so hilarious and I love her! Days when I’m feeling really sick or discouraged I love putting this podcast on – her recent episode about Christmas Hallmark movies where she interviewed Candace Cameron Bure was way too fun!
I believe this is such a needed podcast and message for the 2019 Believers. While Calvinism seems to be permeating so many aspects of the church belief system right now it’s encouraging to hear from someone who can accurately and persuasively share why Calvinistic teaching doesn’t always have a deep or sound theological backing. Now don’t get me wrong, I still have deep respect for Christian leaders and my personal friends who hold to the 5-marks of Calvinism – but I definitely don’t agree with them on everything and if you’re curious as to why, this podcast would be a good place to start. 🙂 Leighton Flowers does a great job addressing many of the questions I’ve been asking myself the past several years and even if you view yourself as a Calvinist, please be open to just give this podcast a chance. If anything, it’ll just challenge you to study the Scriptures more in depth for yourself, which is always a good thing. 🙂
Oh my goodness – I just love Tonya Dalton! She’s the host of the Productivity Paradox and Owner/Creator of the Inkwell Press Planners. I’m using one of her planners for 2019 and that was a HUGE deal for me since I was a die-hard Day Designer fan for 4 years in a row and didn’t think I’d ever switch. But finding Tonya changed my mind. She has put deep thought into her products and offers so much consistent support via her YouTube channel and her podcast that I couldn’t help but switch after becoming an engaged follower of hers. I have started implementing so many of her suggestions about routines and rhythms into my daily life and it has helped me greatly with streamlining my tasks. Her tips have helped me be more productive while still feeling rested. That combination (productivity + REST) is critical for where I’m at with my health right now – I have a lot to do but my energy and physical capacity is extremely low. I’m grateful for Tonya, all her tips, and my planner that I am now in love with! 🙂
Business and entrepreneur podcasts are something I really enjoy and it almost feels like a hobby as I have quite a few I like. How I Built This is probably my favorite tho and I really love listening to how people began their businesses, the hardships they went through and how they kept pushing through to success no matter how many setbacks they had or how hard it got. I find it very motivating for the mental, emotional and physical strength I need to keep fighting Lyme Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, CIRS, POTS and Chronic Fatigue on a daily basis. A few favorite episodes have been with the founders and CEO’s of Starbucks, Burton, Whole Foods, Chipolte, and Rent the Runway, but you truly can’t go wrong with any episode.
Neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to change) is a very real and powerful thing! Dr. Leaf combines the scientific evidence with Biblical truths and it’s beyond amazing. It has really helped me realize the importance of 2 Corinthians 10:5 “…taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” There’s still so much I don’t understand in this realm, but I do believe it plays a role in my continued journey towards health and so I’m hoping to grow in learning more about neuroplasticity this year and I’m also hoping to read some of Dr. Caroline Leaf’s books soon, specifically Switch On Your Brain.
Last but not least is Washington Watch. I’ve been listening to this since before podcasts were even a thing! lol. I personally think this is one of the best ways to keep up with the news and current events from a Biblical viewpoint and I really appreciate Tony Perkin’s wisdom and that they have quite the variety of guests on their show. They also allow callers on a regular basis as well which I always really enjoy. So if you’re looking for a way to keep up with the news without having to watch the news or read a newspaper, this is the podcast for you. 🙂
Alrighty friends, that’s all I’ve got for today! Would love to hear from you in the comments what some of your favorite podcasts are. 🙂 If you listen to any from this list let me know what you think! I’m now looking forward to making this a yearly post on my blog and it’ll be fun to see how my podcast interests change or don’t change over the years.
Blessings on your January, dear friends! I hope you have a beautiful Wednesday and I’ll talk to you soon!!
